Kingsknowe Golf Club

Kingsknowe Golf Club is seeking applications for the position of Club Professional.

Located in the south-west of Edinburgh, just 10 minutes from the city centre and with excellent access to the M8, M9 and Edinburgh City Bypass, Kingsknowe is a thriving and welcoming members’ club with a strong reputation for golf and community engagement.

Founded in 1908, the Club features an attractive 18-hole parkland course originally designed by Open Champion Alec Herd and later redesigned by the renowned golf architect James Braid. The course comprises two loops of nine holes returning to the clubhouse, with a Standard Scratch Score of 69 for men and 71 for ladies.

The Role

The successful candidate will operate an independent professional business from the Club’s professional shop and office facilities while providing a range of contracted services to support the Club’s operations, member experience and golf development objectives.

Professional Services to the Club

The Club will provide suitable retail and office facilities from which the Club Professional can operate. Responsibilities will include:

Managing the First Tee operation, including starting duties, competition entries and day-to-day play management.
*Administration and management of the Intelligent Golf system, including tee bookings and competition administration.
*Collection, processing and reconciliation of payments from members, visitors and guests.
*Promotion and marketing of club activities, competitions and social events.
*Management of visitor and society enquiries, including the proactive promotion and sale of tee times, visitor packages and group bookings.
*Organisation and administration of all visitor and outing bookings, including collection and reconciliation of green fee income.
*Collection and management of visitor and guest data for marketing purposes in line with applicable data protection requirements.
*Provision of professional retail services to members and visitors.

*The Club Professional will be responsible for ensuring appropriate staffing levels are maintained to deliver the contracted services and operating hours outlined within this agreement. This may       include the recruitment, employment, training and supervision of Assistant Professionals or other support staff as required

*Oversight and routine maintenance of the Club’s fleet of golf carts.

Golf Development Responsibilities

The Club Professional will play a leading role in developing and enhancing the Club’s golfing programmes and pathways.

Key responsibilities will include:

*Supporting the long-term development of structured golf programmes across the Club.
*Working closely with volunteer groups, committees and team managers to strengthen participation and performance.
*Enhancing the Club’s reputation through the delivery of high-quality coaching and player development initiatives.
*Organising and delivering coaching programmes for key membership groups, including:
Juniors
Ladies
Beginners
Higher handicap golfers
*Leading the continued development and growth of the Club’s Junior Golf Programme.
*Developing coaching opportunities for external groups and newcomers to the game as part of the Club’s business development and promotional activities.

First Tee Operating Hours

The agreed operating hours are currently:

April, May, August and September

*Monday to Friday: 8.00am to 6.00pm
*Saturday and Sunday: 7.15am to 6.00pm

June and July

*Monday to Friday: 8.00am to 7.00pm
*Saturday and Sunday: 7.15am to 6.30pm

October to March

*Monday to Friday: 8.30am to 4.30pm
*Saturday and Sunday: 8.00am to 4.00pm
*These hours may be amended by mutual agreement to reflect seasonal and operational requirements.

Training, Health & Safety

The Club Professional will be responsible for:

*Training and supervision of all staff employed within the professional business.
*Compliance with all health and safety requirements relevant to the professional shop and associated facilities.
*Maintaining up-to-date fire safety assessments and risk reviews.
*Ensuring adequate first aid provision within the First Tee operation, including competence and availability relating to the use of defibrillators.

Essential Requirements

Applicants should demonstrate:

*Strong IT skills and experience working with golf management systems. Experience with Intelligent Golf is highly desirable.
*The ability to work collaboratively as a key member of the Club’s management team, building effective relationships with the Board, committees, staff, members and volunteers.
*Excellent administrative and organisational abilities.
*Outstanding customer service and communication skills.
*A commitment to maintaining and enforcing Club policies, rules and procedures.
*Experience and confidence in using social media and digital platforms to promote club activities and engage members and visitors.
*Appropriate PGA or equivalent professional qualifications relevant to the role.

Remuneration

Kingsknowe Golf Club is keen to maximise the opportunities presented by this appointment and welcomes innovative proposals that will benefit both the Club and the successful candidate.

The remuneration package, subject to negotiation, may include:

*An annual retainer for agreed contracted services.
*Performance-related incentives linked to revenue generation.
*Preferential or subsidised rental terms for the professional premises.
*Support with utilities and operating costs.
