Assistant Professional — Alresford Golf Club
An exciting opportunity for an ambitious PGA professional to progress their career at one of Hampshire’s most respected members’ clubs.
Reporting to the Head Professional, Mark Wood, the Assistant Professional will be a key member of a forward-thinking team shaping the future of golf at Alresford. The role spans operations, retail, custom fitting, coaching and member engagement — offering genuine variety, from coaching and club fitting to club repairs and leading from the shop floor.
We’re looking for someone who thrives in a member-facing environment: bringing energy, personality and professionalism to every interaction, and taking real pride in the quality of their work and the relationships they build.
About Alresford Golf Club
Founded in 1890, Alresford is a classic chalk downland course on the edge of the South Downs, playable all year round thanks to its free-draining terrain. One of Hampshire’s oldest clubs, it’s cherished by members for how little has changed across its 135-year history — a traditional course paired with a friendly, modern clubhouse and excellent catering.
This is a traditional members club. A dedicated team of professionals looks after administration and catering, while our greenkeeping staff maintain and develop the course to the standards our members expect.
Our practice facilities are extensive: open and covered driving range bays, a practice bunker, chipping and putting greens, practice nets, a pitching range and a par-3 course. The Professional’s studio sits at the end of the covered bays, where individual, group lessons and custom fitting are delivered to golfers ranging from complete beginners to scratch players.
The Role
As part of the team responsible for retail, coaching and golf operations, you will:
- Support retail operations — stock purchasing, merchandising, FPOS management (Intelligent Golf) and day-to-day shop activity.
- Lead club fitting services, running professional custom fitting sessions using modern technology and strong product knowledge.
- Oversee club repair and building services, ensuring high-quality workmanship and timely turnaround.
- Drive retail performance — promoting a strong sales culture and supporting KPI targets and stock control.
- Assist with golf operations, including tee sheet management and competition/tournament administration.
- Support smooth daily golf operations and cross-department coordination, maintaining excellent course and practice facility standards.
- Deliver high-quality individual and group coaching across all abilities.
- Develop and grow coaching programmes, including beginner pathways, junior golf and group initiatives.
- Support the Club Golf Academy, demo days, fitting events and wider member engagement activities.
What We’re Looking For
- Outgoing, confident and personable, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build genuine relationships with members and visitors across all demographics
- A proactive self-starter with strong initiative, ownership and a consistent “get things done” mindset
- An adaptable communicator, equally at ease with junior golfers, new members and long-standing members alike
- PGA qualified (or working towards), with strong technical expertise in club fitting, club repair/building, coaching delivery and competition management
- Experience in premium golf environments, with commercial awareness across retail, stock and FPOS systems, and readiness to step into a senior leadership role
Qualifications
Candidates must hold (or be working towards) PGA qualification. Evidence of ongoing continued professional development is preferred.
