About the Candidate

I am writing to apply for the  position at your esteemed golf club. As a Scottish PGA Golf Professional born on March 18, 1971, and raised on the historic North Berwick Links, I bring over 30 years of teaching experience and a proven track record in golf club management, business development, and player development. Inspired by the legacy of North Berwick legends like Ben Sayers, Davie Grant, and Willie Anderson, my passion for golf’s heritage and values—integrity, fairness, and perseverance—drives my commitment to elevating golf programs. My wife, a lawyer, and I are fully prepared to relocate to dedicate ourselves to your club’s success. Your vision, as showcased on your website, aligns with my goal to grow the game through innovative leadership and exceptional instruction.

Teaching Experience and Player Development

With over 30 years of teaching experience, I have coached golfers of all skill levels, from beginners to professionals, including many national players. My teaching career began in my teens on North Berwick Links, where I honed my ability to connect with players and instill a love for the game. Since 1995, I have developed a comprehensive, holistic teaching philosophy grounded in my psychology studies, emphasizing mental resilience, technical precision, and physical fitness. I am proficient in advanced technologies like Trackman and Flightscope, enabling data-driven instruction tailored to each golfer’s needs.

My proudest achievement is mentoring numerous junior golfers to national prominence, many of whom secured golf scholarships at top U.S. colleges, including programs like Central Alabama Community College and St. Petersburg Junior College, where I studied on scholarship. At Golf Club Castelfranco in Italy (1995–2014), I built the region’s top junior program, growing it to over 140 players under 18, with several representing Italy in international competitions. My ability to guide players from grassroots to elite levels stems from my personalized approach, fostering confidence and skill in a positive, engaging environment. I have also coached professional golfers, helping them refine their game for competitive success. During winter seasons, I worked in cutting-edge indoor swing studios, including a facility with five simulators, where I created dynamic learning experiences for golfers of all ages and abilities.

Golf Club Management and Business Development

As Head Professional at Golf Club Castelfranco (1995–2014), I transformed a small facility with 28 members into one of Northern Italy’s premier golf academies. I developed a strategic business plan, led marketing campaigns, secured sponsors, and hosted community clinics, growing membership to over 800 and expanding the course from 9 to 18 holes by 2009. I founded A.C.K.S. Clubmakers, a thriving club-fitting business that employed two full-time clubmakers, enhancing player performance through custom equipment. At Golf Club Caorle (2014–2015) and Golf Bodensee Weissensberg (2016–present), I streamlined operations, managed diverse memberships, and delivered exceptional instruction. My multilingual skills (fluent in English, Italian, and German; basic Spanish) and global experience enable me to connect with members and guests, fostering a welcoming, professional atmosphere.

Daily Operations and Leadership

I excel in managing all aspects of golf club operations, including staff coordination, tournament organization, and member relations. My leadership ensures operational efficiency while prioritizing member satisfaction and revenue growth. I have organized high-profile events, clinics, and community days that elevated club visibility and engagement. My experience in both resort and private club settings, combined with my adaptability to diverse environments, equips me to drive your club’s daily success.

Competitive Background and Golf Heritage

My competitive career began with a notable milestone: at 17, I was the only amateur invited to the Costa Azul Open in 1988, where I secured my first professional victory, a testament to my early talent. I represented Scotland at the schoolboy level, earned a U.S. golf scholarship, and competed professionally worldwide (1992–1995), winning mini-tour events in Florida and Sweden. I continue to play select professional tournaments, maintaining a high-level connection to the game. Raised on North Berwick Links, I am deeply inspired by its history and am committed to sharing Scottish golf culture globally.

Personal Commitment and Relocation

My wife, a lawyer, and I are enthusiastic about relocating to fully commit to this opportunity. We are eager to embrace your community and contribute to your club’s legacy. With my extensive experience, I am confident in my ability to lead your golf club or school to new heights, fostering growth, excellence, and a vibrant golfing culture.
